Complex formation between Pb II and the common environmental inorganic ligands, Cl -, OH -, CO 3 2-, SO 4 2-, and PO 4 3-, can be significant in natural waters with low concentrations of organic matter. Numerical modeling of the speciation of Pb II among these inorganic ligands requires reliable values for the relevant stability (formation) constants. This paper provides a critical review of such constants and related thermodynamic data. This review is the third in a series relevant to the speciation of heavy metal ions in environmental waters of low to moderate ionic strength. It provides access to the best available equilibrium data for use in chemical speciation modeling of reactions of Pb 2+ with the major inorganic ligands present in environmental systems: Cl -, OH -, CO 3 2-, SO 4 2-, and PO 4 3-. The previous reviews in this series were on the Hg 2+ and Cu 2+ complexation reactions with these ligands.
