Zhuanxu was a mythological emperor of ancient China who was said to have lived approximately 2200 BC. He was the grandson of the Yellow Emperor and succeeded his cousin Shaohao as leader of the Shi clan. During his 78-year reign, Zhuanxu established a unified calendar system, composed early Chinese music, and promoted the patriarchal system over the previous matriarchal one. He defeated Gonggong and established himself as one of the Five Emperors of Chinese mythology.
