This study compared early vs late surgical repair for preterm infants with inguinal hernias. Among over 300 infants randomized, those in the late repair group, where surgery was delayed until after neonatal intensive care unit discharge and the infants were older than 55 weeks, had fewer serious adverse events compared to the early repair group. The findings support delaying inguinal hernia repair until infants are older and more developed.
