About this document
Extra Reinforcement in Beam Design by PapaiDip is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Extra reinforcement bars are provided at the ends of beams and slabs to resist negative bending moments. At beam ends, top bars are extended past the point of inflection between negative and positive bending. For slabs, top bars may be needed at discontinuous edges if rebar spacing exceeds 300mm, which can allow partial fixity and cracking. Development length is also provided to ensure adequate bonding of rebar in the concrete.
