About this document

Highly Substituted Carboxymethyl Starch by andres Pabon is a document available to read on EtoBox.

This document describes a study examining the preparation of highly substituted carboxymethyl starch using a twin-screw extruder. Specifically, it investigated the effects of sodium mono chloro acetate to starch ratio, aqueous ethanol to starch ratio, and screw configuration on the degree of substitution and reaction efficiency. Carboxymethylated starches were characterized using various techniques. The highest degree of substitution and reaction efficiency obtained were 1.54 and 0.42, respectively.
