About this document

Idjang: Batanes by Thamiah Izabell Odena is a document available to read on EtoBox.

In 1994, Dr. Eusebio Dizon discovered four triangular-shaped rocky hill formations called Idjangs in Batanes, Philippines. Idjangs are 100-meter tall citadels made of limestone and wood that the local Ivatan people built on hilltops as fortresses to defend themselves against invaders. The Ivatan would climb to the Idjangs and lower rope ladders only for villagers while keeping invaders out.
