What is The little elephant. : W.J. Corbett, illustrated by Tony Ross about?

"Tumf (short for Tumffington) is the luckiest little elephant in Africa until the terrible day when the ivory poachers make him an orphan. But Tumf's adoring aunts taught him a song - a special song - that is really a journey across a map. Tumf sets out on a nightmarish journey but he finds friends. But there is also the varmint... Across Africa, through desert and swamp, water and land, happy and sad, Tumf plods on in his quest for happiness."--Publisher description.
