Hydrogen and the alkali metals are in Group 1 of the periodic table. Hydrogen is the simplest atom and is highly flammable. The alkali metals include lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium, cesium, and francium. They become larger and more reactive down the group. Sodium is soft and reactive, extracted from salt, and used to make glass. Potassium is very reactive and found in fertilizers. Rubidium, cesium, and francium are also soft, reactive metals in the group.
