San José Marello was born in Italy in 1844. He showed interest in faith from a young age by helping as an altar boy. In 1856, he decided to become a priest and entered the seminary. He founded the Congregation of the Oblates of Saint Joseph in 1878 for the moral and religious formation of youth. He was appointed Bishop of Acqui in 1888 and passed away in 1895 after dedicating his life to the service of others, especially the poor. He was beatified in 1978 and canonized in 2001.
