The brain ventricles are cavities filled with cerebrospinal fluid that originate from the central canal of the embryonic neural tube. There are four ventricles in the brain: two lateral ventricles located in the cerebrum, separated by the septum pellucidum; the third ventricle located in the diencephalon; and the fourth ventricle located in the pons and cerebellum.
