Comparative thermogravimetric and gasometric studies of the oxyreactivity of a lignite char HTT 550°C (XL 550) have shown significant differences between the reactivity results obtained by means of the two methods employed. This attributed to the fixation of oxygen on the internal surface of the gasified chars. In an attempt to establish the significance of different factors possibly accompanying the gasification of lignite chars in oxygen (chemisorption and physical adsorption of oxygen, thermal decomposition of the char not resulting in the formation of CO and COB etc.) simultaneous thermogravimetric and gasometric measurements were carried out at different temperatures of gasification, and for a given burn-off of the chars a balance of mass was worked out. Because of the temperature of decomposition of surface oxides formed on the gasified char surfaces, a lignite char HTT 825"C(CL825) was additionally investigated.
