This study investigated the impact of tooth loss on quality of life in elderly people. 72 edentulous elderly people aged 60-79 living in an institution in Brazil participated in interviews. 84.7% had teeth extracted, and 81.9% reported difficulties after losing their teeth, including problems eating and difficulties with social interaction and communication. The study found that tooth loss negatively impacts quality of life, especially with regards to well-being and appearance.
