What is Performance Analysis of Sensorless Model Predictive Current Control Based Three-Level Inverter Fed Five-Phase PMSM Drive about?

In this paper a Model Predictive Current Control (MPCC) technique based Three Level Inverter (3LI) fed Five-Phase sensorless Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) Drive is proposed and compared with a Two-Level Inverter (2LI) fed Five-Phase PMSM Drive. The main objective is to minimize the torque ripple and achieve precise control of motor speed. Unlike traditional Model Predictive Control (MPC), the proposed MPCC eliminates the need of weighting factors and proportional-integral (PI) controllers, which simplifies the control algorithm. Further, the speed of the drive is estimated using Model Reference Adaptive System (MRAS) based speed estimation method to avoid the usage of speed sensor and reduce the cost. The proposed model is simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK. The simulation results of proposed sensorless MPCC based 3LI fed Five-Phase PMSM drive shows the superiority over the 2LI drive in various scenarios including no load, sudden load change, speed reversal, step change of speed, and load conditions.
