The story is set on the planet Venus, where it rains continuously for seven years at a time. The children living underground have not seen the sun in this entire period. On the day the rain is supposed to stop, the other children lock Margot, who remembers seeing the sun on Earth, in a closet so that she misses their only chance to see it. After realizing what they have done, the children regret their cruel treatment of Margot, who only wanted to see the sun she remembered from her early childhood on Earth.
