The solid solutions Li(Co Li Mn )O were prepared over the whole compositional range between two kinds of 12x x/ 3 2x / 3 2 layer structured compounds, LiCoO and Li MnO . The performance of the solid solution as the cathode of the lithium cell 2 2 3 was comparable with that of LiCoO , although the discharge capacity decreased with the increase of x. The cyclic 2 voltammetry of the Mn-substituted samples showed two anodic peaks at 3.9 and 4.4 V.
