What is Understanding Notice of Readiness (NOR) about?
Notice of Readiness (NOR) is a statement made by the shipmaster to the charterer or their agent indicating that the ship is ready to load or discharge cargo at the agreed location. For a NOR to be valid, the ship must be physically ready to perform cargo operations when the notice is given. While some routine matters may still need to be completed, the ship must be able to load or discharge cargo without delay. A valid NOR is required to commence laytime and demurrage calculations in the charterparty.
