This study assessed the prevalence of underweight and stunting among 4,450 school children aged 6-18 years old in West Bengal, India. The overall prevalence of underweight and stunting were found to be high at 27.9% and 23.0%, respectively. Boys had a higher prevalence of underweight than girls at 29.7% versus 24.5%. The nutritional status of the children in the study areas was deemed unsatisfactory, indicating an urgent need for health promotion and intervention programs.
