What is El Chivato: Cajabamba about?

There is an old story from the city of Cajabamba, Peru called "El Chivato". According to the legend, there were seven pools connected by small waterfalls between two mountains. It was said that from 6pm onwards, a half-human, half-goat creature would emerge and hunt for animals to eat. If it could not find animals in the mountains, it would take domestic animals from local peasants. After having a feast at the pools, it would leave the remains and disappear until the next night to hunt again.
