This document describes two novel splice variants of the apoptosis inhibitor survivin that were identified in human renal cell carcinoma (RCC) cell lines. The variants, named survivin-DEx3 and survivin-2B, lack exon 3 or retain part of intron 2, respectively. Transfection experiments showed that survivin-DEx3 largely preserves the anti-apoptotic function of survivin, while survivin-2B has a markedly reduced anti-apoptotic potential.
