The Buddha Speaks The Ullambana Sutra. According to the sutra, Maudgalyayana saw that his mother had been reborn as a hungry ghost through his spiritual powers. When he brought her food, it turned to ashes in her mouth before she could eat. The Buddha told him that only with the combined spiritual powers of monks from all directions could his mother be saved from her suffering.
