The lymphatic system consists of lymph, lymphatic vessels, lymphatic tissues and organs that drain excess fluid, transport lipids and immune responses. It includes lymph nodes that filter lymph, the thymus that produces T cells, the spleen which filters blood, and lymphatic nodules in the intestines, tonsils, and elsewhere. The immune system has innate immunity through physical barriers and chemicals, and adaptive immunity through antigens, antibodies, and lymphocytes that provide specific defenses.
