What is Time and Again Pancake Breece DJ about?

The story follows an old snowplow driver as he clears snow from a mountain road. He picks up a polite hitchhiker and discusses his farm and hogs. He thinks back to his time in the war and dropping into France by parachute. The hitchhiker gets out at Gauley Bridge and the driver continues home, tired and thinking of counting the men from his platoon.
