Most cells in the body undergo cell division on a regular basis to replace old cells. The cell cycle is the process by which a cell duplicates its contents and divides into two daughter cells. It consists of interphase, where the cell grows and duplicates its DNA, and mitosis, where the cell divides into two identical daughter cells through cytokinesis.
