An inuksuk is a human-made stone landmark or structure found in the Arctic regions of North America. It is used by the Inuit as a marker for directions, food caches, or meeting places. The word comes from the Inuktitut language and means "something that acts in place of a human." Inuksuk continue to be an important symbol of Inuit culture and are featured on the flags of Nunavut and Nunatsiavut. They have also increasingly become a symbol of Canada and are often erected throughout the country.
