About this document

Understanding Center of Rigidity in Structures by Moe Oo Htun is a document available to read on EtoBox.

The center of rigidity is the stiffness centroid of a floor diaphragm. When lateral loads are applied to this point, the floor diaphragm will only experience translational displacement, while other levels can translate and rotate. It is calculated by applying unit loads and moments to induce rotations, and solving the resulting equations. Building codes may require specifying the center of rigidity for multi-story building design.
