Greg Rogers was a young US Marine stationed in Beirut, Lebanon in 1983. On the morning of October 23rd, 1983, a truck bomb exploded at the Marine barracks, killing 241 American service members. Rogers survived because he was awake early that morning waking up other soldiers, as was his duty. The explosion was the largest non-nuclear bomb in history. Rogers helped recover bodies from the rubble and attended funerals for his fallen comrades. The bombing had a profound impact on Rogers and the Marine Corps.
