World Youth International constructed an EcoShell orphanage in Nyamasaria, Kenya called the Owiti Children’s Home to house some of the many children orphaned by AIDS. EcoShells are monolithic dome structures made of 2-3 inches of concrete and rebar that are stronger and more disaster resistant than traditional buildings, and can be constructed in 3 days using local materials and labor. They provide sustainable housing solutions and address shelter shortages in developing countries.
