What is Distinguishing Entamoeba Species about?

Entamoeba gingivalis is a non-pathogenic amoeba that lives in the mouth, between gingival pockets and near the base of teeth. It is found in 95% of people with gum disease and 50% of healthy individuals. Unlike other Entamoeba species, E. gingivalis does not form cysts and is transmitted orally. Several reports have documented its occasional colonization of the uterus as well.
