What is Mode Matching for Concentric Horns about?

This document presents a mode matching method for simulating sound propagation in concentric horn geometries. The method divides the horn into short segments and expresses the sound field in each segment as a sum of orthogonal mode functions. Equations are derived to couple the modes between segments at discontinuities, including couplings between a concentric and circular duct, or two concentric ducts. Results using this method are shown to agree well with an alternative boundary element method.
