Ping, a boy who loved flowers, received a cooked seed from the Emperor to plant. The Emperor told all the children that whoever grew the best flower in a year would become the new Emperor. Though Ping tended to his seed daily, nothing grew. Ashamed, Ping brought his empty pot to the Emperor. The Emperor was impressed that Ping told the truth about his empty pot and chose him to be the new Emperor for his honesty.
