Can I read Di-O-benzylidene derivatives of 1-deoxy-d-galactitol and 1-deoxy-l-mannitol on EtoBox?
Di-O-benzylidene derivatives of 1-deoxy-d-galactitol and 1-deoxy-l-mannitol by Per-Erik Jansson; Bengt Lindberg is a Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology article available to read on EtoBox.
What is Di-O-benzylidene derivatives of 1-deoxy-d-galactitol and 1-deoxy-l-mannitol about?
In connection with studies of the fragmentation of alditol acetates in electronimpact mass spectrometry, di-0-benzylidene derivatives of I-deoxyhexitols were needed as intermediates in the synthesis of model substances. Di-0-benzylidene derivatives of l-deoxy-D-galactitol' (L-fucitol), I-deoxy-D-mannitolz (D-rhamnitol), and 1-deoxy-L-mannito13 have been described, although their structures have not been determined. We have now reinvestigated the di-0-benzylidene derivatives of l-deoxy-D-galactitol and I-deoxy-L-mannitol. When I-deoxy-D-gaiactitol was treated with benzaldehyde in 50% aqueous sulfuric acid, a mixture of di-0-benzylidene derivatives was obtained, as indicated by t.1.c. of the product. Methylation of the product, followed by acid hydrolysis, yielded comparable amounts of the 5-and 6-O-methyl derivatives of I-deoxy-D-galactitol, which were identified by g.l.c.-m-s. of their alditol acetates4. One of the components
