What is NINCDS Notes about?

and Communicative Disorders and Stroke (NINCDS) is encouraging grant applications involving brain dysfunction in the disorders of learning. Along with the cosponsoring National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, NINCDS hopes to stimulate research on the neurophysiology and neurochemistry of learning-disabled children. Children who show deficits in attention, memory, motor control, and information processing have been thought to suffer from subtle abnormalities in brain electrical activity. By encouraging basic and clinical research on this problem, the Institute hopes to develop diagnostic criteria for identifying groups of learning-disabled children and to refine the techniques used in evaluating brain function. Of particular interest are srudies using evoked potential and EEG measures. Neuroendocrine, metabolic, and neuroradiological studies are also desired.
