1. Taenia solium, the pork tapeworm, can infect both pigs and humans. 2. In humans, the adult worm lives in the small intestine and releases eggs, which are passed in feces. 3. Pigs or humans can become infected by ingesting the eggs. Inside the intermediate host, the eggs hatch and release larvae that develop into cysticerci in tissues. 4. Humans are reinfected by eating undercooked pork containing the cysticerci larvae. The larvae attach to the intestinal wall and develop into the adult tapeworm.
