What is Oxytocin Drug Study Overview about?
Oxytocin is used to induce or improve uterine contractions to achieve early vaginal delivery. It works by directly acting on myofibrils to produce phasic contractions characteristic of normal delivery. It is contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to vaginal delivery or those with cephalopelvic disproportion. Side effects include hypertension, nausea, vomiting, anoxia and asphyxia. When administering oxytocin, the nurse must continuously monitor contractions and vital signs, and discontinue the infusion
