Labeled Motor Unit and Muscle Contraction by Maggie-Louise Bellamy is a document available to read on EtoBox.
What is Labeled Motor Unit and Muscle Contraction about?
The document discusses the sliding filament theory of muscle contraction. It explains that when a muscle is stimulated, calcium is released from the sarcoplasmic reticulum which causes troponin to move tropomyosin allowing the myosin cross bridges to attach to actin. The myosin then tilts pulling the actin inward, shortening the sarcomere. Repeated attachments of myosin cause the sliding of the actin and myosin filaments past each other, shortening the muscle. Calcium is then pumped back into the sarcoplasm
