The document describes the process of developing a transient simulation model in PSCAD Relay from an existing phasor-based system model in ASPEN to enable more comprehensive relay testing. An existing 1300+ bus ASPEN model was reduced to an equivalent 4-bus PSCAD model. Steady-state comparisons showed results matched. Transient fault waveforms generated from the PSCAD model were then used to test protection relays, allowing evaluation of scenarios not possible with phasor models.
