What is Pruitt Igoe: A Case Study in Urban Failure about?

Pruitt Igoe was a public housing project in St. Louis, Missouri built in 1954 to address overcrowding and poverty. It aimed to provide quality housing for middle-class black and white residents but faced issues with lack of maintenance funding, rising crime rates, and racial segregation. By the late 1960s, Pruitt Igoe had become nearly vacant and was plagued with decay, crime, and infrastructure failures. The entire complex was demolished in 1972, marking what some saw as the failure of modern architecture.
