A Promise is a Promise by Molly Cone; John Gretzer is a children's book available to read on EtoBox.

What is A Promise is a Promise about?

It was mostly around Christmas time that Ruthy Morgen felt left out of things in her neighborhood. For the Morgens never celebrated Christmas. They didn't go to the neighborhood church either. And it was a church party to which her friend Sandra was invited, that started Ruthy thinking of joining the church Sunday school class. But impulsive Ruthy, though she wanted to be like everyone else, didn't want to give up being herself either. How Ruthy discovers that being what she wants to be is partly discovering who she is will strike a responsive chord in young readers. This is an appealing and warm story of a Jewish family who live in a neighborhood where even the trees on the front lawns are all the same. A bit of kindness done for an odd neighbor provides Ruthy with two cats and more trouble than she knows what to do with. But a promise is a promise. There is something real about Ruthy, and because there is, girls of all backgrounds will find interest in this story and entertainment as well.
