1) On April 28, 1988, Aloha Airlines Flight 243 from Honolulu to Hilo experienced an explosive decompression when the roof of the Boeing 737 aircraft tore off at 24,000 feet, exposing the cabin. 65 of the 95 people on board were injured. 2) The decompression was caused by cracks forming between the rivets of tear strips in the outer skin of the aircraft.
