What is Understanding Developmental Dysplasia of Hip about?

Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is a condition where the hip joint is loose or dislocated in babies. It occurs in 1-2 in 1000 babies and is more common in girls. If untreated, it can lead to limping, hip pain and arthritis. Babies are examined at birth and 6-8 weeks to diagnose DDH early. Treatment involves using a Pavlik harness to secure the hips or surgery. With early treatment, most children develop normally.
