What is ALEPH four-jet excess, Rb and R-parity violation about?

We point out that the exotic 4-jet events reported by ALEPH may constitute a signal for supersymmetry with some relatively light superpartners and with explicitly broken R-parity. A parton level simulation shows that production of a pair of light charginos with their subsequent baryon-number violating decays (either through a stop or through a neutralino) could possibly give rise to this excess. The decay x; + 71b --+ dsb leads to signatures close to the experimental observations. The additional contributions to Rb in such a scenario are also discussed. Preliminary results from the LEPl.5 run (after the upgrade of energy to fi = 130-l 36 GeV) include peculiar four-jet events reported by ALEPH [ 11. Such events have not been reported by the other experiments though4. If this effect were real, it, along with Rb, could constitute the only possible signals of deviation, at LEP, from the Standard Model (SM) expectations. As may be recalled, the SM value for the latter is 0.2157 (for mt = 175 GeV), while the current [3,4] experimental world average5 is 0.2178f0.0011, thus reducing the discrepancy to just 2~.
