Standard installation clearances for metal gratings include maintaining a 1/4" clearance between ends of cross bars and rivet heads on rectangular or riveted gratings, with 3/8" clearance for heavy duty gratings. Cutouts for obstructions should be at least 2" larger in diameter than the obstruction. Rectangular cutouts are made to the next bearing bar beyond the penetration with clearance not exceeding bearing bar spacing.
