The Abyssinian War was a colonial war between Italy and Ethiopia from 1935-1936. Italy invaded Ethiopia in October 1935 with 400,000 soldiers and modern weapons. Ethiopia had 800,000 soldiers but they were poorly equipped and unprepared for modern warfare. By May 1936, Italy had conquered Ethiopia and established Italian East Africa. Ethiopia regained independence during World War 2 when Italian power declined. The war strengthened Mussolini
