About this document

Converting Tons of Cooling to kWh by arid-dexter is a document available to read on EtoBox.

To convert a ton-hour of chilled water to its energy equivalent, you multiply the tonnage by 12,000 Btu/hr as 1 ton of cooling capacity is defined as removing 12,000 Btu of heat per hour. For example, 1 ton-hour of cooling would be equivalent to 12,000 Btu or 3.516 kWh of energy. Chillers are commonly rated in kW per ton or other efficiency ratings like EER or SEER that relate the cooling output in Btus to the energy input in kWh. Using these ratings and basic calculations involving temperature differences
