About this document
Mirizzi Syndrome: Diagnosis & Surgery Insights by Ann Alegre Valenzuela is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Mirizzi syndrome is a rare complication of gallstone disease where stones become lodged in the cystic duct or neck of the gallbladder, causing mechanical obstruction of the common hepatic duct. The authors present their experience with 12 cases of Mirizzi syndrome that were diagnosed during surgery. Post-operative morbidity was 58% and mortality was 8%. Ultrasound did not provide a pre-operative diagnosis. Mirizzi syndrome requires a high index of suspicion and is usually only diagnosed during surgery.
