This study examined nosocomial infections in 278 burn patients admitted to a Brazilian burn unit over one year. The median total body surface area burned was 14% and median hospital stay was 12 days. Eighty-six patients had a total of 148 infections, including 72 bloodstream infections in 57 patients. The most common microorganisms causing infections were coagulase-negative staphylococci and methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus.
