Abstract From June 1991 to May 1995, a general surgery course was conducted by a group of Manila faculty using a distance education mode in Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC), located in far south of the Philippines. ZCMC is a tertiary government hospital with a catchment of 3 million population in Western Mindanao lacking in qualified trainors for general surgeons.
