Ramon Magsaysay was a Filipino politician who served as the 7th Secretary of National Defense and later as the 7th President of the Philippines. As Secretary of Defense, he led the campaign against the communist Huk rebellion in the Philippines and brought it to an end. He later became president and continued policies against the Huks, fully suppressing the movement. Magsaysay died in a plane crash in 1957 and was seen as a heroic figure who helped defeat the communist insurgency in the Philippines.
