What is The American Work Ethic Today about?
To work hard has always been considered one of the most important American values. The United States, the land of the proud self-made men, could not have become an economic world power without the diligence of its people. This characteristic stems from the Protestant (Calvinist) work ethic which influenced people to work hard and promised an afterlife reward for their effort and self-reliance. (Weber, 2005) This essay seeks to shed light on whether this attitude towards work still prevails in modern America
