This study examines quality of life and clinical outcomes for women 5 years after primary repair of third-degree perineal tears from childbirth. It finds that 57% of women report anal incontinence, lower anal resting pressures, and decreased sensation compared to women without tears. Larger sphincter defects were also seen. While symptoms impacted quality of life, the difference compared to the control group was not significant.
